FAQ

What is couture?

Unlike ready-to-wear, couture garments are developed specifically for one client. Rather than purchasing a dress and having it altered, couture pieces begin from the ground up and are refined over a series of fittings, allowing every detail to be considered before the final fabric is cut.

Do you create completely custom designs?

I work within my own design aesthetic rather than creating completely custom designs from scratch. If you love my work but are looking for a few refinements, we can discuss details like neckline, sleeve options, length, and fabric selection during your consultation.

Do you make bridal gowns?

Yes. Bridal is one of my favourite things to create. If my work resonates with you, please reach out to book a consultation.

Can you recreate a dress I've seen online?

I do not reproduce any other designer's work.

How does the process work?

Every garment begins with a consultation before moving through a series of private fittings at my Toronto studio. Together we'll develop your garment, refine the fit, and perfect each toile before cutting into the final fabric. The process is highly collaborative and your feedback is important and welcomed.

What is a fitting appointment like?

We begin with a series of toiles - mock-ups made from cotton. I'll pin and sculpt the toile directly on your body, allowing me to gradually perfect the fit before cutting into the final fabric. Each fitting builds on the last, with further refinements happening each time until it feels just right.

The appointments themselves are relaxed and collaborative. They're an opportunity to slow down, watch your garment come to life, and leave the technical details to me.

How many fittings will I need?

Most garments require a minimum of six fittings, but can take more. Each iteration allows us to make further refinements until you're left with a garment that fits like a glove, exactly how you'd like it to.

How long does the process take?

Every garment is different, but couture cannot be rushed. If you're commissioning a garment for a wedding or special event, I recommend reaching out as early as possible to discuss timelines.

What should I wear to my fittings?

I generally recommend wearing a fitted but non-compressive tank top with leggings or bike shorts to your first few fittings. If you plan on wearing any specific undergarments with your final piece, please bring those along as well.

Can I choose my own fabric?

I work with a carefully curated selection of natural fibres that I've sourced over the years. During your consultation, we'll discuss fabric choices further and explore the many options at your first fitting.

What if my body changes during the process?

Bodies naturally change, and small fluctuations are completely normal. Because your garment is developed over multiple fittings, I'll make adjustments throughout the process to achieve the best possible fit. If you're expecting significant changes, please let me know during your consultation before any work begins.

Can I bring someone to my fittings?

You're welcome to bring a friend, partner, or family member if it helps you feel more comfortable. I just ask that you limit it to one guest during our fittings to help keep the appointments as relaxing and focused as possible.

Do you work with clients outside of Toronto?

Because every garment requires multiple in-person fittings, I only accept clients who are able to travel to my Toronto studio.

Can you alter a garment I already own?

At this time I focus exclusively on creating new bespoke garments and do not offer alteration services.

Do you offer rush orders?

Because of the number of fittings involved, the process can't be rushed. I only take on commissions when I know I have the time to give each garment the care and attention it deserves.

Do you offer payment plans?

A 50% deposit is required before work begins, with the remaining balance due prior to completion. If you have questions about payment, please don't hesitate to reach out.

What do couture garments cost?

Custom couture commissions begin at $4,500 CAD for a silk corseted mini dress. Couture ball gowns begin at $12,000 CAD, with each garment individually quoted based on design complexity, materials, construction, and couture handwork.
